In continuing our mission to promote the development of our youth, City SC San Marcos is proud to offer $3000.00 in annual college scholarships. We invite all our qualified college bound youth to apply.
Scholarships awarded will be funded in $500 increments, with the maximum value of $1,500 awarded to any single candidate. Program funding is limited and not all applicants will receive a scholarship award.
Applications must be submitted to info@cityscsanmarcos.com or at the above address no later than April 30th, 2024 with the board announcing the winners in late May. Candidates must meet the following criteria.
- Participation in City SC San Marcos.
- The candidate must be graduating from high school the year in which the award will take place.
- The candidate must be a student in good standing at their high school and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- If a student volunteer, documented volunteering of time to a City SC San Marcos program.
The selection committee will be chaired by the Vice President of City SC San Marcos. Four additional members of the committee will be appointed by the President of City SC San Marcos. The additional members will include: one current adult volunteer of City SC San Marcos, one previous adult volunteer of City SC San Marcos, and one community leader who is not directly affiliated with City SC San Marcos.
The committee will give preference to candidates who have been associated with City SC San Marcos for multiple years and have demonstrated good character, leadership and community involvement.
Requirements
- Complete College Scholarship Application Form.
- Provide proof of acceptance in an educational program (College, University, Trade School).
- Please attach an essay that outlines the information listed below. This essay is the primary component of your application. There is a three-page limit. Double spaced, well-written, typed essays are preferred.
- Introduction: Introduce yourself using your full name and affiliation with City SC San Marcos. Include information about your home, family and community.
- Academics: Describe yourself as a student – how you made the grades you received and how much time you spend studying. Tell us who/what inspired you to pursue a college education. Tell us about your involvement in school activities.
- Career Plans: Describe your ultimate career goal. Tell us the steps you are taking to reach your goals. Explain what qualities you see in yourself that will help you in your journey and career. Discuss your strengths and weaknesses.
- City SC San Marcos Involvement: Reflect on your experience with City SC San Marcos. What years you were involved and in what capacity. List the years you played and how you volunteered. What are your thoughts on volunteerism?
