The City SC San Marcos Recreational Program is the foundation of City SC San Marcos, serving over 1,000 recreational players within San Marcos & the North County community. City SC San Marcos is dedicated to providing a fun, safe, and community-based program. It is our mission to offer a program where players have the opportunity to technically improve while having fun and building a love of the game, as well as providing unlimited growth opportunities for players of all skill levels and potentially acting as a stepping stone into the competitive program.

 

The City SC San Marcos Recreational Program is overseen by the Recreation Director, Matt Dolan.

City SC San Marcos runs two recreational seasons in the calendar year. The first is the 8-week Spring Arena League, followed by our widely popular Fall Recreation League, which runs from August to November. Fall registration ends in July, and this league fills up quickly, so be sure to sign up quickly.

Arenas with artificial grass remain open for play unless lightning is present. The inflatable Sunset Arena games may be canceled if the grass is closed by City Parks, phone for weather update.

2026 Summer Futsal Season Information 

Registration opens March 24th 2026 

 

 WHAT IS FUTSAL?

Futsal is a soccer-based game played on a hardcourt (often a basketball court).  Futsal is played between two teams of 5 players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper.  Walls or boards are not used. It is played with a smaller, harder, and lower-bounce ball.  The surface, ball, and rules favor ball control and passing in small spaces.  The game emphasizes control, improvisation, creativity, and technique.

Important to note: League is coed.  No practices; Saturday morning 70-minute sessions.

HOW DOES THE SEASON WORK?

Based upon enrollment, players will be broken up by age.  Each age group will be assigned seventy minutes per Game Day (Saturdays between 9a-2p). During the 70-minute weekly session, players can expect coaching from our professional coaches and staff members as well as game play. League is Co-Ed, Saturdays only.  There are not additional practices.

WHO CAN REGISTER?
We are accepting players U04 – Lil’ Kick Stars / Players born August 2022 – July 2023 (45-minute sessions) through U5-U14 / Born July 31st, 2022 – August 1st, 2012.  Players of all skill levels are welcome, however this is a Recreation Season and instruction will be tailored for our developmental players (not Competitive).

Lil’ Kick Stars = $100

Registrations can be canceled BY the following dates for a refund (partial or full) of paid registration fees. Please see the chart below for cutoff dates:

• On or before May 11th for a 100% refund
• On or before June 1st for a 75% refund
• On or before June 12th for a 50% refund
• No refunds after June 12th

VOLUNTEER HEAD or ASSISTANT COACHES and Team Managers NEEDED!
All of our volunteer coaches receive training and tools to support their success. If you are interested in becoming a coach, please REGISTER TO COACH HERE.

Head Coaches will receive a credit for a future registration for a City SC San Marcos program for their child for coaching a team. Credit will make registration only $100 per player. Credit will be processed upon completion of Coach Onboarding & Team Assignment. Please note: this credit is available only for 1 Head Coach per team.

BUDDY REQUESTS (Lil’ Kick Stars, U5/U6 and U7 ONLY):

• This is a request and NOT a guarantee!
• The buddy request should ONLY be submitted by our lower divisions (born August 1st, 2022 – July 31st, 2020).
• The buddy request MUST be reciprocal!
• The buddy request is ONLY for ONE person; if there are additional names in the field, we will not consider any of them.
• Only buddy requests received before Priority Registration ends on July 12th can be considered.
• These rules are to avoid unbalanced teams; we cannot offer buddy requests to U8-U14 Divisions.
• Sibling Requests will be verified by person registering player.

WHAT TO WEAR:

• Players cannot wear any jewelry or watches on the field, including earrings.

• Players must wear shin guards; otherwise, they cannot participate in the match.

• Players must wear soccer cleats or other shoes, but cannot wear baseball, football, or any other style cleats with a toe spike.  You can wear athletic shoes, but be aware that they are thinner and provide less protection for your feet.

Remember that this is a recreational activity; we play so the kids can have fun.  Please always keep that as your focus and remind your parents of the same.  We want to hear cheers for all players on both teams.  Leave all your negativity at home.

Referees: Please be aware that many of our referees are minors, and I have no tolerance for abusive behavior toward them.  If coaches, players, or parents treat them poorly, I will ask them to leave the field. Please be a role model and teach the players and parents to respect the officials.

If you have an issue with a referee, please head over (or send someone) to the board table so we can assist you at the field.
